As we go through our lives trying to learn what our dreams mean, it can be a very daunting journey. There are so many variables and possibilities that can make even the most avid dreamer feel overwhelmed. Without Holy Spirit to help guide us through the understanding of them, we will surely get too focused on what we think it may mean instead of its truth and we can totally miss the True message. Once we grasp this we can look into areas that God has already placed before us in the form of knowledge. Some of that knowledge can help us understand our dreams better by knowing what our dream is about. One of the ways we can know what our dream is about is by looking at the dreamscape of our dream.

Just as we look around us (landscape) to see where we are and what may be happening in our natural lives, we can do the same in our dreams. Do we notice that we are in our current home, a school, hospital, our childhood home, church, bathroom, or even an unknown place in our dream? Those are dreamscapes to take notice of in order to help tell us what our dream may be about. It doesn’t mean they are literal places, but symbolic or metaphoric instead. Even people can be our dreamscape if we don’t see a background of where we are. We can see our immediate family, extended family, coworkers, church family, and even those we have never met. They too can tell us what our dream is referring to but they rarely mean the literal people.

A dream where we are in our current physical home usually represents our life and where we are at that time in our life. A school can represent a time of learning more or going back to the basics of something. A hospital can be about a time of healing, restoration, and even death (not always negative). Our childhood home can show us things that we are being healed from, dealing with, or need to let go of as well as the goodness we may have grown up with as well. A bathroom can tell us that we need to go through a type of cleansing whether superficial or deep.

*Helpful Tip: When we dream of seeing our front yard/porch or our back yard/porch it is possibly relating to our past or future. Our back door, porch, or yard may represent our past whereas our front door, porch, or yard may represent our future.

Dreaming of an unknown place may tell us where we may be going or we may be having issues with not really knowing where we are in life. This can also be represented by being in a house that you know is yours in the dream but you’ve never seen it before. The same would apply if you are in a different part of the world you have never seen. We do get spiritual promotions, territory, and border increases but there are also times we move into a place that we thought we be bigger and better in our spiritual lives and instead it is close to the same or less is more.

Understand that rarely are these places meant to be literal. Remember, Jesus spoke in parables to remind us that God has a language that we can understand but not everyone will comprehend it. (Matthew 13:10-15) We have been given God’s wisdom to understand it. It is just as much a visual language as it is by hearing or using any other of our 5 senses. Parables, metaphors, symbols, and similes are a big part of God’s language with us, therefore our dreams tell us a story but not usually a literal one. You have to remember that before Jesus came speaking in parables, we were already having parabolic dreams since God created us. In the book of Genesis, the very first book of the Bible, the word dream is introduced beginning in chapter 20.

Knowing or seeing where you are in life is just as important in our dreams. Where we are in our dreams can even tell us a lot of why we are in the physical places we are in at the time. From these dreams, God helps us get out of where He doesn’t want us to be, help us live where we should be until it’s time to move forward, and even how to bypass ever getting to those places we should never go.
